The stress of everyday life has once again overwhelmed and overwhelmed us and the decision has been made: we're going on vacation!
In order to let our climate-conscious souls relax with a clear conscience, Reisigo has put together a few tips for sustainable vacation planning.
Travel destinations within Austria that can be reached by public transport, have the best climate balance. Car journeys when fully occupied have a better carbon footprint; on a Reisigo trip you are fortunately already part of a group.
The wheels of the bus turn around... around...
If you are a little further away but still in Europe, the Interrailpass is a cost-effective solution. Suitable routes can be explored directly on the app or on Raileurope. Special rail savings offers in Europe can also be found at Wirsindanderswo.
In Europe, trains transport us comfortably and in a climate-friendly way
Hotels are increasingly concerned about sustainability. By using resources such as water and energy carefully, they help to permanently reduce emissions in tourism businesses. Attention is also paid to seasonal and regional products and vegetarian and vegan options. An official national label is the österreichische Umweltzeichen and an overview of global eco-labels in tourism can be found on Destinet.
Eco-labels help with pure climate conscience nap
Not only is our body happy that it has to carry less, but also the climate, because with less weight there are fewer greenhouse gas emissions from motorized transport.
Less luggage saves energy and emissions
The classic eco hack, but it still brings a lot! Always have nice glass or steel bottles with you. As a pro hack, we also take lunch boxes with us, so if your eyes were too big during breakfast, you don't have to throw anything away.
The refillable bottle as a loyal companion
In the spirit of gentle tourism, we also show our best behavior on site. We avoid and separate waste, save water and energy and treat people, animals and plants with respect.
When we behave conscientiously, nature is happy with us
The market for CO2 compensation is large, but unfortunately there is a lot of sloppiness going on there. It is important to find a competent and trustworthy partner. When buying plane tickets, it is often offered to compensate for CO2 emissions, but this option is hardly available for travel in general or hotels in particular. In the spirit of sustainability, we at Reisigo have decided to support a climate protection project at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in order to compensate for unavoidable emissions during hotel stays.
The aim of a climate protection project is to establish structural and sustainable changes in the global south. The emissions saved locally are intended to compensate for the CO2 emissions generated by another activity.
The legitimacy of our project partner is established thanks to intensive support from Boku's scientific advisory board. This ensures independent testing and quality assurance of both the compensation system and climate protection. Reisigo relies on Boku's many years of experience and integrity in environmental protection issues. We feel connected to the small projects at the local university.
